Travel Insurance
This can be a bit of a bore - one of those practical considerations that regrettably need to be attended to before you jet off on your
long anticipated break. Here are some quick tips that, even if you don’t want to devote too much time to the matter, should help to ensure
that all the bases are covered.
- Before you do anything else check your existing insurance. The policy covering your car may allow for driving abroad and your life
assurance may apply anywhere for instance. It’s unlikely you’ll be covered for everything however so you’ll
probably need to think about taking out some level of travel insurance. Many companies such as AA now offer many different forms of
insurance including travel insurance. Check out
AA Travel Insurance
for further information and quotes.
- Given that your existing cover may stretch further than you think it might not be necessary to opt for the ‘cover for everything you
could possibly think of’ policy with a cost to match. So don’t pay over the odds.
- As with any type of insurance it’s always prudent to shop around for the right cover. There are bargains out there and the selection
of links below could help you find them.
- Think about what type of holiday you’re going on and what you’re likely to get up to. If you plan on involving yourself in any
unusually dangerous activities or sports then you’ll want to make sure your policy covers it. There are specialist winter sports
policies for instance and some backpacker travel cover, such as that offered by
Go Travel Insurance, incorporates a wide range of activities.
- If you make regular trips abroad you might want to consider an annual policy – you could end up making savings even if you only
make two journeys in a year. Annual travel insurance is offered by most of the major providers including
Directline and
AA Travel Insurance.
- Insurance for caravans and motorhomes is available from specialist companies such as
Safeguard
(part of the Swinton Group).
