There's so much to see in and around Bedford. For a start, there's the town
itself with its historical buildings and variety of
shops. Take a walk along the
Victorian Embankment at the edge of the
River Great Ouse and enjoy the
beautiful gardens or relax and simply watch the boats go by.
For art lovers and historians, Bedford offers you the chance to indulge in your favourite occupation - visiting galleries and museums. The Cecil Higgins Art Gallery and Museum houses one of the finest collection of watercolours, prints, drawings, ceramics, glass and Bedfordshire Lace outside London. Be sure to visit the Bedford Museum, by the river in Castle Lane, for a fascinating interpretation of the human and natural history of the region. Bunyan's Meeting House and Museum is also well worth including on your tour. Outside the town one of the main attractions must be Woburn Abbey and of course Woburn Safari Park for a great family day out adventure. Alternatively, why not visit Old Warden Aerodrome and see The Shuttleworth Collection of 40 vintage and rare aeroplanes housed in enormous hangars on the edge of Old Warden Park. You can also visit the exquisite Swiss Garden. Nature lovers will want to spend time at the famous RSPB Nature Reserve and gardens at Sandy. Walkers will find Bedford an absolute paradise with a choice of riverside walks, town walks and country walks. Or why not take a tour of the town with one of our Town guides. Prefer two wheels to two legs? There are cycle routes that criss-cross the county. If you enjoy horse riding there are several facilities nearby whilst golf enthusiasts have a choice of courses. There's athletics at the international standard Bedford Athletic Stadium and tennis, putting and bowls are available in most public parks in the town.
