Riverside and Countryside![]() Stevington Post Mill The Great River Ouse running through the centre of Bedford has long been an attraction for residents and visitors alike. The beautiful Embankment Gardens and immaculate parks create a fine setting for relaxing with a drink or a meal at one of the riverside restaurants, to participating or watching a host of water based sports. Down by the riverside, don't miss the spectacular 'switching-on' of the riverside illuminations each evening at dusk. River events also include the Bedford Regatta where schools and clubs can display their rowing prowess and the annual Dragon Boat Race is a spectacle in its own right. Back on dry land the Bedford Corn Exchange is the venue for the annual Bedford Beer Festival. Alternatively, get away from it all at Priory Country Park, over 300 acres of open space including wildflower meadows, lakes and trees all within one mile of the town centre.
