Wells
In Wells you will find a city like no other in Britain and a friendly welcome to match. There is so much to see and do that a whole day, or even two, can be spent exploring its many attractions. The great Gothic cathedral and Cathedral Green are the centrepiece for a complex of buildings and streets equally old and fascinating, including the moated and walled Bishop's Palace, Vicar's Close and the fine architecture of the Market Place, linked to the Green by the curiously named Penniless Porch. Wells and the neighbouring villages (such as Wookey Hole) are rich with attractive hotels, inns, farmhouses and restaurants where you will be welcomed with traditional Somerset warmth and hospitality. Wells is the history of England and a lot more besides - a busy market town and commercial centre by day and a peaceful place to stroll in the evening to enjoy the splendour of floodlit buildings. Relax over dinner and sleep content with the anticipation of another day. Come and see for yourself!! Wells has excellent shops and there is also a brand new leisure centre, a bijou cinema and lots of walks for those folk who like plenty of fresh air. Wells welcomes visitors at any time of year. Why not come in November to see the spectacular illuminated Carnival? Just right for that relaxing break away. Whilst here you can take part in many activities. Market days are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays in our beautiful Market Square. We look forward to seeing you soon or on a future occasion. Places to visit:
