LongtownLongtown, with its handsome bridge and England's largest sheep market, lies adjacent to the site of the Battle of Solway Moss fought in 1542 between the English and the Scots. The site of Arthuret parish church is strongly linked to the legend of King Arthur!Friendly Tourist Information Centre staff are on hand to help with enquiries and local information about recreational facilities and walks along the River Esk and in the surrounding countryside. Catch your own trout, carp and salmon at Oakbank Country Park just outside Longtown; four lakes, a bird sanctuary and walks in 60 acres of country park. From this last town in England, drive across the border to Newcastleton and the sinister-looking Hermitage Castle in Liddesdale valley, once home to the most predatory Reiving clans. Places to visit:
