Boroughbridge
©Copyright The Francis Frith Collection The origins of Boroughbridge fall during the reign of William the Conqueror. The bridge built over the River Ure formed and important link between Edinburgh and London and so the town became a natural coaching post. The architecture is an intriguing mix of Regency, Georgian and Victorian influences with the elaborate fountain dominating St James Square. Nearby are the boating marina and the legendary Devil's Arrows, 3 massive stone monoliths dating from 2000-1500BC. The largest is 30ft high.
