Sports and Activity

Portsmouth offers top-line sporting attractions - and a wealth of facilities to the visitor who prefers to participate.

For League Football, Fratton Park is home to the city's soccer team, while at Burnaby Road the United Services Rugby Club alternates in summer with Hampshire county cricket. Portsmouth Greyhound Stadium stages three evening race meetings a week. The city also hosts international athletics and cycling events.

For the individualist who likes to pack a pair of trainers in the holiday luggage, there's a wonderful choice of fume-free routes for walking or jogging. It's possible to run without break for more than four miles along the seafront while enjoying tremendous views of the Solent - or to find even greater peace on shoreside footpaths overlooking Langstone Harbour.

With immediate access to the waters of the Solent, sheltered by the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth also offers much to watersports enthusiasts, from the canoeist and wind-surfer to boat owners making Portsmouth their base for Solent cruising or Channel passengers.
