There is no argument; Brighton & Hove is a culinary paradise. Where else can you stroll past French, Italian, Mexican, Thai, Spanish, Greek, Indian and Chinese restaurants in less than a couple of minutes? Not that English cooking has anything to fear from Brighton & Hove's cosmopolitan offerings. The Big Resort has some of the best seafood restaurants in the country - and, of course, some of the best fish and chip shops too!

The Lanesand East Street: home to some of Brighton & Hove's best-known restaurants. Seafood is a speciality in restaurants in Brighton's oldest quarter. Some of them occupy tiny houses, previously the homes of Brighton's fishermen. At night the Lanes is sophisticated, with a charm all its own. During the day, especially for diners eating al fresco in one of the restaurants around Market Square, there's no better place from which to watch the world go by.

Preston Street and Waterloo Street: this is Brighton & Hove's busiest restaurant quarter, with its astonishing range of Greek, Chinese, Italian, American-style and Indian restaurants. Remember, they are all competing with each other to provide excellent food at great value-for-money prices, so Preston Street offers choice and value that is hard to beat. Nearby, running up from the sea, Waterloo Street has a clutch of excellent Tex/Mex, French and English restaurants.

Church Road: over the last four years Church Road in Hove has built up an impressive reputation as home to some of the best restaurants in the resort. It's a long road but within a stretch of just 300 metres or so you can taste Mexican, Tex/Mex, Indian, Thai, Chinese, Italian and French - all to the highest standards. Parking is easy in this part of town so it's a great place to visit for those who may be staying elsewhere.

For the explorer: in Brighton & Hove so many of the very best restaurants take some finding! Two suggestions: try Kemptown to the east for some of the resort's finest French restaurants; and Preston Circus is also worth exploring - here you will find a small selection of Indian, English and French eateries.

Fine food demands fine wine. Naturally our restaurants and hotels offer an astonishing variety of vintage and new labels from all around the world. We have our own vineyards nearby, at Steyning, Ditchling and throughout Sussex. We have cider from Horam and real ale from Lewes, Horsham and, in the resort itself, from the Kemptown Brewery and the Hogshead Brewery in Hove.

The Big Resort has hundreds of pubs - all serve beer: some also serve up drama, comedy, music and quizzes. Many hold mini beer festivals to compliment Sussex's own real ale jamboree - the annual Sussex Beer Festival held at Hove Town Hall. And if you prefer something a little more colourful in your glass, sample our cocktail bars, wine bars, cafe bars and brasseries...
