Filey

Glorious beaches, rocky coves, towering cliffs. Marvelous resorts or tiny fishing ports. Non-stop family fun or windswept solitude. Welcome to the Great British seaside!

What's your holiday mood? Bright, bustling and buzzing? See you in Scarborough and Bridlington, major resorts packed with action.

Our smaller resorts such as Filey, Hornsea, Withernsea and Cleethorpes, have been family favourites for generations. The picturesque fishing port of Whitby remains little changed by the centuries, as do timeless villages such as Robin Hood's Bay and Staithes.

Ever changing in its moods, our coastline ranges from the golden splendour of some of Britain's finest beaches to the wave-pounded rocks of the East Coast's highest cliffs. Don't forget that the North York Moors and the lovely Yorkshire Wolds are the scenic frame for our coastline with picturesque country towns and historic houses within easy touring distance.

As you'd expect on this premier holiday coast, the choice of what to see and do is endless. Up-to-the-minute attractions include Scarborough's Sealife Centre and Millenium, Bridlington's Leisure World and Cleethorpes' Pleasure Island Fun Park plus of course, all the traditional amusements that make a holiday complete!

For lovers of history, mighty Scarborough Castle towers over the harbour and the eerie drama of clifftop Whitby Abbey inspired to writing of Dracula. Captain Cook, England's greatest navigator, learned his trade at Whitby and a fascinating heritage trail traces his life.

Sport and the seaside go together and sailing, golf, bowls and angling are just some of the choices. The Cleveland Way National Trail offers spectacular walks along the clifftops and for bird watchers, the sanctuaries at Bempton Cliffs and Spurn Point are nationally noted.

Our holiday year is bright with fairs and festivals - join us at Scarborough Fair, Whitby Folk Festival, Filey Edwardian Festival and Europe's largest carnival parade in Cleethorpes. Classic sporting events include Filey Fishing Festival and Scarborough Cricket Festival and don't miss historic traditional events such as Whitby's Blessing The Boats.
